- Subtropical, deciduous, fruit tree, rarely shrub of the family of garnet. The root of the plant, angular, branched. Pomegranate tree grows to a height of 10 meters. Shoots are often prickly.
The leaves are large, up to 7-6 cm long and 2 cm wide on stalks. Pitcher pomegranate flowers set fruit, and those that look like bells - barren flowers. Both are typically red, arranged at the ends of shoots in the axils of leaves.
Flowering pomegranate remontant, ie, stretched, and therefore not all fruits ripen at the same time. Fruits - big granatiny with leathery pericarp from 10 to 15cm in diameter, weighing up 600-700gr. reddish, yellowish or brownish-yellow-olive color.
Seeds are often dark red, sometimes bright, are surrounded by a layer of juicy pulp sour, sweet and sour or sweet taste. Are they in nests located on two levels.
Pomegranate tree lives 100 to 300 years. Fruiting begins at 6-7 years and gives to 20-60 kg of fruit per tree.
Pomegranate grows in Iran, Afghanistan, the Mediterranean, North Africa, Tajikistan, found in the Crimea and the Caucasus.
